[ARCHIVED] New Four-Way Stop Coming to West 1st Street and North Oak Avenue

The City of Cookeville is installing a new four-way stop at the intersection of West 1st Street and North Oak Avenue on Thursday, May 1. This change is being implemented to enhance safety and improve traffic flow in the area.

The updated intersection will now require all drivers to come to a complete stop before proceeding, regardless of direction. This adjustment is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements across the city.

Contractors from Vulcan Materials recently completed milling operations at the intersection and are currently working to pave and restripe the roadway in preparation for the new stop pattern. As part of the upgrade, new traffic and crosswalk lines will be added, along with the installation of clearly marked traffic signage at all four approaches.

Motorists are urged to exercise extra caution when approaching and navigating the intersection, especially as the community becomes accustomed to the new traffic control measures.
