The 32nd Season of the Backstage Series at the Cookeville Performing Arts Center Continues with Rx by Kate Fodor
The 32nd Season of the Backstage Series at CPAC continues with Rx by Kate Fodor, opening on January 10th. Rx is a love story, a story about work and our relationship with our jobs, and a story about pharmaceuticals. Under the direction of Jordyn Strilecky, who last directed Exit, Pursued by a Bear by Lauren Gunderson in 2023, the play introduces us to characters that we may recognize from our lives or in ourselves. Jaime Williams, who plays the role of Allison Hardy, explains: “I appreciate how the author uses distinct characters to represent various facets of commentary on both the pharmaceutical industry and society at large. Through my character, Allison, Fodor skillfully critiques the profit-driven practices of Big Pharma, highlighting how corporate motives often overshadow patient well-being, creating a system where health becomes commodified.” Williams continues, “At the same time, the play doesn't overlook the undeniable benefits of pharmaceutical innovations—such as life-saving treatments and advancements in medical care—that have made a profound impact on society.”
The cast also features Emily Amonett in the role of Meena Pierotti, Kevin O’Connor as Phil Gray, Holly Mills as Frances, Matthew Wilson as Simon, and Ryan Steele in the roles of Ed and Richard. Stage management by Kate Breidert and intimacy coaching by Emma Waltenbaugh.
The Backstage Series is a program of the City of Cookeville Department of Leisure Services and is supported by the staff of the Cultural Arts Division, including Jordyn Strilecky and Kim Frick-Welker, with technical direction and set design by Matthew Wilson, and lighting design by Patrick Mannle.
Performances are January 10th, 11th, 14th, 16th, 17th, and 18th at 7:30pm and a matinee performance on January 12th at 2pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students and are available at the CPAC Box Office Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm, over the phone at 931-528-1313, or online at cpactn.com.
