[ARCHIVED] City to Begin Street Paving on Oct. 22

The City of Cookeville plans to begin widespread paving of the West 9th Street and downtown East Broad Street areas this week.

Contractors from Rogers Group, Inc. will begin paving city streets Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the West 9th Street area between Hawthorn Drive and Mt. Vernon Road. Street paving in this area is expected to take approximately one week. These streets include:

  • Mt. Vernon (from W. 9th to Valley Forge)
  • Buck Avenue (at Buck Cemetery off W. 9th)
  • Morningside Drive (from W. 9th to Melrose)
  • Briarwood Drive (from W. 9th to Hawthorne)
  • Melrose Drive (from W. 9th to Hawthorn)
  • Hawthorn Drive (from W. 9th to Melrose)

Each street will close on the day it is being paved and will reopen to traffic by the following day. Each street will remain open to residents of that street and emergency vehicles. All other traffic is asked to use alternative routes.

Towards the end of the week, approximately Oct. 24, street paving will also begin in the East Broad Street and East Spring Street area from North Oak Avenue to Raider Drive. Street paving in this area will extend up to East 6th Street and down to South Elm Avenue. Since many of these streets will require milling before paving, some street and lane closures will take multiple days.

The following streets are included in the second round of paving:

  • Hill Street (from E. Spring to E. Hudgens)
  • South Elm Avenue (from Proffitt Hill to Stevens)
  • North Jefferson Avenue (from E. 1st to E. Spring)
  • East 4th Street (from N. Ferguson to Washington)
  • North Ferguson (from E. Broad to E. 6th)
  • East 6th Street (from N. Maple to Fisk)
  • East 1st Street (from N. Washington to N. Maple)
  • North Oak Avenue (from W. Broad to W. 4th)
  • East Broad Street (from E. Spring to N. Cedar)
  • Freeze Street (from N. Maple to N. Washington)
  • Raider Drive (E. Spring to Old Kentucky)
  • the alley connecting West 1st Street and West 2nd Street (between N. Oak and N. Cedar)

The City of Cookeville appreciates the support and cooperation of Cookeville's residents and visitors while this paving is taking place. Questions about this project can be directed to the City of Cookeville's Public Works Department at 931-520-5249.
