South Jefferson Avenue, from Sliger Road to Pigeon Road, will close Friday, Oct. 4, at 7p.m. Contractors working for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be completing work on a storm drainage culvert in this area. This section of South Jefferson will remain closed throughout the weekend. It will reopen by 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct 7.
TDOT advises vehicles to detour along I-40 and Hwy 111, as shown in the included map, or along local side streets. Sliger Road will remain open to residents and visitors only. The southbound lane of South Jefferson will remain open to Sliger Road to allow local traffic to get to their destinations. Similarly, the northbound lane of South Jefferson will remain open to Pigeon Road.
TDOT is also closing West Cemetery Road between South Jefferson Avenue and White Road at 7 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7. This stretch of street will remain closed until 6 a.m. on October 21 while TDOT’s contractors grade, mill, and pave the entrance of Prescott Middle School.
South Jefferson Avenue, which reopens at 6 a.m. on Oct. 7, will remain open during the work along West Cemetery.
Local traffic can bypass the work zone by detouring along Bunker Hill Road and West Davis Road, as shown in the attached map. Prescott Middle School will still be accessible from West Cemetery Road, with TDOT coordinating this closure to align with the Putnam County School System’s fall break.
