Cookeville’s Department of Leisure Services is offering a Youth Lacrosse League at the Parkview Homer Hackett Field.
Kurt Snider, league director, can’t wait for the season to begin. “We’re excited to offer this league again this year,” says Snider. “It’s a great opportunity to introduce the sport to a new group of young players and to help them fall in love with the game.”
The league begins March 25 and is open to boys in grades second through fourth. The first two weeks are devoted to team practices where players will learn the fundamentals of lacrosse. The league welcomes both experienced players and newcomers to enjoy this fun and dynamic sport.
Snider believes lacrosse is a great sport for kids. “It’s fast paced and always moving. Lacrosse incorporates the strategy of basketball, the endurance of soccer, and the hand-eye coordination of baseball.”
League games begin in April and are played on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Each game session starts with 30 minutes to an hour of drills and skill development followed by gameplay.
Registration for Youth Lacrosse is open now through March 15. The cost to register is $50 per child. Each player will receive a uniform at no additional cost.
Instructors and coaches for the league are current or former participants from the Cookeville Lacrosse program. For more information or to register, visit www.cookeville-tn.org/ls/athletics or call 931-526-9767.
