[ARCHIVED] 8th Grade Career Fair

City 1

This week the City of Cookeville participated in an interactive career fair that hosted 3,200 eighth graders across seven counties. Thank you to Highlands Economic Partnership and Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce for this amazing opportunity.

Jacob Manier and Kris White, with our Water Treatment Plant, engaged students with a demonstration of the process used to treat water by removing unseen contaminants.

Mary Beth Elrod is a Stormwater Engineer with our Public Works department. She educated students on her responsibilities as a civil engineer and the importance of keeping litter out of our lakes and rivers.

Members of the Fire department, Anna Leming, Stephanie Howick, David Pierce, and Lieutenant John Dukes provided a hands-on experience showing kids how a mechanical advantage can aid in rope rescue.

Sergeant Zach Gilpin, Officer Katelyn Gramme, and Officer Mariah Logg discussed aspects of their roles as officers and the types of equipment used in the field. Sergeant Mike Herrick piloted drones and explained how drones can be used for a variety of purposes, including searching for missing persons.
