[ARCHIVED] Look for Putnam County’s historical markers in May 9 ‘History Hike’

COOKEVILLE – Nineteen historical markers stand in Putnam County – and 10 of them are in Cookeville. Know where they are?

This year’s first History Hike, a monthly activity presented by Cookeville Leisure Services, offers an opportunity to search for them on May 9.

“We are challenging you to drive around the beautiful Upper Cumberland to find the markers where our history happened,” Ashley McKee, Cookeville museums education specialist, said. “Think of it as a car tour.”

Participants are encouraged to take photo selfies along the way and tag the Cookeville History Museum and Cookeville Depot Museum on social media.

Normally, History Hike participants have a chance to win a prize for completing an activity – but not this time.

“Since our museums are still closed in an effort to help promote the health and safety of our community, we will not be doing a prize drawing,” McKee said. “This one is going to be for the fun of it.”
