COOKEVILLE – Tai Chi, Qigong, Belly Dance, Yoga and Drumming Circle – it’s all happening Aug. 3 during Wellness Day at Cane Creek Recreation Center.

Free demonstrations will be offered between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. No registration is required.

“The purpose of Wellness Day is to introduce and bring attention to our creative wellness classes,” Mildred Garrett, Cookeville Leisure Services programmer, said. “We hope to have something for everyone who would like to experience exercise and movement in a way he or she may have never thought of.”

The schedule is as follows:

  • 10-11:15 a.m. – Tai Chi and Qigong with Nikki Desch
  • 11:15 a.m.-12 p.m. – Belly Dance with Travis Jarrell
  • 12:15-1:15 p.m. – Yoga Nindra Meditation/Relaxation with Rayma Ewing
  • 2:30-4 p.m. – Drumming Circle with Massood Taj and Colin Hill

“Our instructors are well qualified and experienced,” Garrett said. “They’re all dedicated to their craft and recognize each participant as a person, not a number. They are willing to help in any way possible.”

She encourages everyone to attend and learn ways to enhance physical and mental health.

“If you are not familiar with our classes, you might find the perfect fit,” she said. “If you already attend our classes, you are invited to come and enjoy a free class and fellowship with others.”
