[ARCHIVED] Family Fun Frolic set for June 15 at Cookeville Depot and History museums

COOKEVILLE – History and fun will come together June 15 for a Family Fun Frolic at the Cookeville Depot and Cookeville History museums.

The free activity – a fun twist on the museums’ monthly History Hikes – was originally planned for June 8 but rescheduled due to predicted rainy weather. It will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

“We’re so excited to welcome area families to our fifth Family Fun Frolic,” Beth Thompson, Cookeville museums manager, said. “What could be better than getting out for some free, family fun on a warm Saturday in June?”

Participants may begin at either the Cookeville Depot Museum, 116 W. Broad St., or Cookeville History Museum, 40 E. Broad St. Activities include giant checkers, tic-tac-toe, sack racing, hopscotch, ring toss, corn hole, sidewalk chalk, marbles and bubbles.

“We will have games at both museums and some along the way between the museums on Broad Street,” Ashely McKee, museums education specialist, said. “Of course, we will also beat the heat with some sweet treats.”

Those completing the activities will be entered in a prize drawing sponsored by Foglight Foodhouse.

Participants are also encouraged to explore the new “I Spy Cookeville” interactive exhibit at the Cookeville History Museum. Admission is free.

History Hikes, presented by the Historical Arts Division of the City of Cookeville Department of Leisure Services, are held the second Saturday of each month, April through October. For more information, call the Cookeville History Museum at 520-5455 or Cookeville Depot at 528-8570.
