The City of Cookeville broke ground this morning, August 15, on a new splash pad, playground and parking lot at Cane Creek Park. The new amenities will be located next to the Cane Creek Recreation Center and the upcoming pickleball courts.
City officials, members of the Cookeville City Council and project contractors gathered at the site to mark the occasion.
“This project reflects our commitment to investing in quality-of-life improvements and creating spaces where memories are made for generations to come,” said Laurin Wheaton, City of Cookeville Mayor.
“Cane Creek Park has always been a gathering place for our community,” Mayor Wheaton continued.” These new amenities will make it an even more vibrant and welcoming destination for families.”
In the coming weeks, FTM Contracting crews will complete preliminary site work before installation begins on the splash pad, playground and parking lot.
The 91-foot circular splash pad, designed and manufactured by Aquatix, will feature interactive water elements ranging from gentle sprays to high-volume play structures. With various age-appropriate zones, the splash pad is designed to welcome children of all ages.
The playground, designed and manufactured by Landscape Structures, will span 8,384 square feet and include slides, swings and stand-alone play features such as a spinner, bouncer, rocker, and climbing structure. ForeverLawn safety surfacing will be added for safety and durability.
“We are looking forward to these new amenities at Cane Creek Park,” said Rick Woods, director of Leisure Services. “A splashpad and new playground, along with the pickleball courts, were all new features that were suggested in our community surveys and included in our current master plan for this area. So we are happy to see the plan come together and development take place.”
Recreational Concepts will install both the splash pad and playground, with Kimley Horn serving as site designer. The total cost for the project is approximately $2.6 million.
Construction is underway, with the new amenities expected to be completed by Spring of 2026.
