[ARCHIVED] Cookeville Leisure Services Offers Prediabetes Workshop

Prediabetes Workshop

Cookeville, TN – The Cookeville Leisure Services Department is offering a workshop aimed at educating the community about prediabetes and preventative measures. “Prediabetes Workshop,” led by experienced healthcare professional Melissa Ptak, will be held on Wednesday, April 23, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Cane Creek Recreation Center. There will be an additional date on May 3 from 1:00 - 2:30 PM.

This workshop addresses the growing concern of prediabetes, a condition that, if left unchecked, can lead to type 2 diabetes. Participants will gain insights into the risks associated with prediabetes, learn effective strategies for prevention or reversal, and understand how lifestyle modifications can significantly impact their health. The program will cover the fundamental aspects of prediabetes, encouraging individuals to take proactive steps toward a healthier future.

Melissa Ptak, the workshop instructor, brings 26 years of registered nursing experience to the program. She is a family nurse practitioner, a certified diabetes care and education specialist, and a certified health coach. Her background ensures participants receive expert guidance and practical advice.

"We're really excited to offer this workshop to the Cookeville Community," says Sally Herren, our Recreation Programmer. "It's an important resource for our community, especially when it comes to understanding prediabetes and how to stay healthy. We think it'll make a real difference for many people."

Cara Sheets, Recreation Superintendent, adds, "Prediabetes is a big issue, and we need to tackle it head-on. By bringing in experts for workshops like this, we're giving our residents the tools they need to make smart choices about their health and take charge."

The workshop fee is $20, and space is limited. To register, contact the Cane Creek Recreation Center at 931-526-7393.
