Beginning Friday, March 28, the section of West Stevens Street between Hughes Street and South Willow Avenue will close at 6:30 a.m. every weekday.
This section of street will only be open to residents and property owners of West Stevens Street. No through traffic will be permitted while the street is closed.
West Stevens Street will reopen late every afternoon for evening and overnight use. Still, drivers should be mindful when travelling through this construction area. Residents and visitors are advised to seek alternative routes when possible.
Hughes Street will remain open and can be used to travel between West Jackson Street and South Willow Avenue. It also provides access to all of the same side streets normally reached from West Stevens Street.
Additionally, the access road behind Jackson Plaza will be closed for the duration of the project.
Multiple construction crews are working on site for Phase I of the West Stevens Street Improvement Project. This project will widen the street and bring new sidewalks, streetlights, utility poles, and sewer lines from South Willow Avenue to West Jackson Street. A center turn lane will also be added at the intersection of West Stevens Street and South Willow Avenue.
