[ARCHIVED] Water Dept asking for Voluntary Reduction in Water Usage

WQC Leak Winter 2024

The City of Cookeville Department of Water Quality Control is requesting a voluntary reduction in water usage from all customers on the Cookeville water system.  These customers include the cities of Algood, Baxter, and Cookeville in addition to the Bangham Utility District, Cookeville Boat Dock Road Utility District, Double Springs Utility District, and Gainesboro Grade Utility District.  We are experiencing extremely high-water usage from leaks due to the recent extreme cold temperatures.  The low temperatures have caused some pipes to freeze and burst.  Now that the lines are thawing, leaks are presenting themselves. We ask that all customers check their houses, barns, garages, outbuildings, or any areas that have water for leaks.  Landlords should check any unoccupied apartments for leaks, including fire sprinkler systems.  If you had water running to keep pipes from freezing, it is now warm enough to stop.   We ask that you refrain from washing your car as well to give our water system some time to recover.  Also, if you notice any leaks along the road, please let us know.

If you have any questions concerning this reduction in usage, or need to report a water leak, please contact the Department at 520-5227 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  For after hours emergencies, please call the Cookeville Police Department at 526-2125 and they will contact on-call personnel. We regret any inconvenience this may cause our customers and appreciate your assistance and patience.
