COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — The City of Cookeville has appointed Randy Hammock as maintenance superintendent in the Leisure Services Department. Hammock began his new role Dec. 1.
The Leisure Services maintenance team is responsible for maintaining all city-owned parks and facilities. Hammock is beginning his 10th year with the department and brings experience across multiple maintenance disciplines.
During his tenure with the city, Hammock has worked in grounds maintenance, building maintenance, electrical work and pipe fitting. Most recently, he served as the city’s plumber.
Hammock said he was initially hesitant to apply for the superintendent position but was encouraged by coworkers.
“I was nervous to apply at first, but my coworkers encouraged me, and I’m grateful for their support,” Hammock said. “Since I started the position, I haven’t even had time to be nervous. I am enjoying being busy making the city better.”
Leisure Services Director Chad McDonald said Hammock’s experience and familiarity with city facilities made him a strong fit for the role.
“Randy has a broad skill set and a deep understanding of our parks and facilities,” McDonald said. “His experience across multiple trades and his commitment to the department will serve the city well.”
Hammock said he is looking forward to completing several ongoing projects, including new restroom facilities in Cane Creek Park and near the new pickleball and splashpad facilities next to the Recreation Center.
A Jackson County native, Hammock graduated from Jackson County High School and attended Livingston vocational programs, where he studied PLC systems, electrical work and drafting (CAD).
