City of Cookeville Hires New Civil Engineer II
COOKEVILLE, TN – November 14. 2025 – The City of Cookeville Public Works department is pleased to announce the hiring of Todd Jones as its new Civil Engineer II within the Engineering Division. This is a key position responsible for overseeing development and infrastructure projects to determine they comply with the city zoning codes, building regulations, and engineering standards.
The Civil Engineer II role requires a licensed professional engineer with six to eight years of experience. Working alongside the Public Works Director, Jones will collaborate closely with other staff to review, manage, and oversee all public and private development projects constructed within the City of Cookeville.
The Engineering Division plays a critical role in evaluating all commercial and subdivision development proposals to ensure compliance with city ordinances and safe engineering practices, including stormwater design, traffic considerations, and street design. The team also oversees infrastructure projects constructed by in-house Public Works crews such as new parking lots, street widening and extensions, storm drainage improvements, traffic signal installations, and more. In addition, the division provides engineering oversight and inspection support to other city departments as needed.
Jones brings 10 years of professional engineering experience, specializing primarily in traffic engineering. A native of Sparta, Tennessee, and graduate of White County High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University. Before joining the City of Cookeville, he worked with multiple engineering consulting firms across Tennessee, managing a variety of public and private sector projects.
“I’m excited to return to this area with my family and look forward to contributing to the continued improvement of the community,” Jones said.
