The City of Cookeville is installing a new four-way stop at the intersection of North Jefferson Avenue and Freeze Street on Monday, July 14. This change is being implemented to enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians along this high traffic corridor.
The updated intersection will now require all drivers to come to a complete stop before proceeding. This includes drivers travelling along North Jefferson Avenue.
Workers will also be on-site installing a traffic island at the southeast corner of the intersection. Once completed, a solar-powered flashing stop signal will be installed and a tree will be planted.
In the coming weeks, a crosswalk will also be added to the east side of the intersection, crossing Freeze Street. The City has already installed one on the intersection’s west side.
Motorists are urged to exercise extra caution when approaching and navigating the intersection, especially while workers are on site.
