Mojo Softball Draws National Attention to Cookeville

COOKEVILLE, TN. – The City of Cookeville recently hosted the Mojo Softball Camp and Tournament at Cane Creek SportsPlex, attracting athletes, families, and college recruiters from across the country for a weekend of skill development and competitive play.

Participants traveled from states including Arizona, Michigan, Colorado, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee to attend the camp, which was tailored to high school softball players seeking collegiate exposure. The weekend concluded with a tournament featuring over 20 teams, highlighting some of the top young talent in the sport.

Several college softball programs attended the event to recruit athletes in person, including Tennessee Tech, Lee University, Jacksonville State, King University, and Tusculum University. For coaches unable to attend, video recordings of drills and games were captured to aid in remote evaluation.

“This event was a great opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills in front of college coaches from across the region,” said Seth Bruton, Athletics Superintendent for Cookeville Leisure Services. “It also brought in families from multiple states, which helps our local economy and gives us a chance to show off Cookeville’s excellent athletic facilities and hospitality.”

William Harkness, Tournament Director for Mojo Moneyball, emphasized why Cookeville continues to be the destination of choice for this growing event. “1swingevents and CMC Camps hosted the 2nd annual Mojo Moneyball tournament last weekend. We continue to host the event in Cookeville, TN because of the hospitality and attentiveness to our needs shown by everyone in the city. Seth Bruton leads the way, maintaining direct communication with us throughout the year to ensure we have everything needed for success,” Harkness said. “As the event grows and attracts top players being scouted by leading schools across the country, we’re exploring ways to incorporate the fields at Tennessee Tech. Giving athletes the chance to play on campus could influence their decision to attend and compete there. The TT staff supports our events strongly, and we're always striving to give the kids the best opportunities. Cookeville also offers our families an affordable out-of-state tournament experience with great restaurant choices and hotel accommodations. We’re already looking forward to our next event in the fall.”

Throughout the camp, college coaches actively participated on the field, observing gameplay, offering feedback, and evaluating how players responded to instruction and team dynamics. Many families cited Cookeville’s central location and welcoming environment as key reasons for attending, especially those targeting Southern collegiate programs.

The continued success of the Mojo Softball Camp and Tournament underscores Cookeville’s emergence as a hub for regional and national athletic events, benefiting both young athletes and the broader community.
